In the spirit of community service, the Willow Springs 5th Grade Class painted and donated a photo board to Draper City to be used in the city's annual Haunted Hollow event scheduled for Monday, October 17, 2016 from 6 to 8 PM. (Here's a link for more information on the event.)
After an art lesson on color, tint, and shade; our students painted (6 at a time) on the project in our room during the month of September. The students then applied weather resistant coating and I cut out the face holes. The 5th Graders did a great job mixing colors and adding highlight spots. Check out their work below and then be sure to attend the city's Haunted Hollow activity on the 17th! Over 150 Willow Springs Elementary students entered an art contest sponsored by the Beehive House of Draper. The entries were universally outstanding as Willow Springs artists worked off of the theme of "I Love My Grandparents." After narrowing the entries down to ten finalists for both the K-2nd grades and the 3rd-5th grades, judges awarded first grader Tori B. and third grader Teiarae T. a $100 first place prize on Monday, September 19. Our Willow Springs students have a wonderful opportunity to participate in an art contest this September sponsored by the Beehive Homes of Draper. One winning K-2nd grade student and one winning 3rd-5th grade student will each win $100! Winning art will be framed and permanently displayed at Beehive Homes of Draper. The theme is "I Love My Grandparents." And all entries must be submitted on a standard 8.5" x 11" paper. But please hurry, entries are due by Friday, September 9 and are to be turned into Mrs. Van De Graaff's room. Winners will be announced on Monday, September 19. Throughout the year, we will be looking for opportunities to share the work of our brilliant Willow Springs artists throughout the community. Whether it is in a government building, a grocery store, a care facility, or other business or meeting space; we're looking to show off what our children can do.
If you are aware of any business that might be interested in displaying works of art, please let me know. You can email me at [email protected]. |
